Do you know what the #1 parent job is at English for FUN?

ENGINEERING!

So at English for Fun we celebrate our Engineers. From our Camps in summer, Christmas or Easter; to our American Preschool and After School English Enrichment Program; most of our parents are Engineers! What is it about that career and why is it so popular at English for FUN?

(HINT- it takes Discipline and Determination...just like learning another language! Oh...and ENGINEERS know that it's easier to set healthy/happy habits in childhood.) We're guessing they also know how important English is for Kids

TO GET THE BEST JOBS IN THE FUTURE, OUR KIDS (FUTURE WORKERS) WILL NEED S.T.E.A.M.M. (LITERALLY)

WHAT IS THAT?

(Sometimes parenting feels lost LOST IN TRANSLATION)

VOCABULARY / VOCABULARIO

 Engineering = Ingeniería

S.T.E.A.M.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, Music) = C.T.I.A.M.M. (Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Arte, Matemáticas, Música)

"We never understood the "E" in S.T.E.A.M.M.... Until we hired an ENGINEER!"

What did we learn from our ENGINEER?

  1. Engineers are organized

    • Keeping track of formulas and numbers and all of that work that is piled on in school, is hard

  2. Engineers are resilient

    • They have been beaten down at university! These kids went from being the 16 year old superstar in high school...to just another smart kid in college filled with other brilliant minds

  3. Engineers know how persevere

    • The ones who finally finish the College of Engineering, are only about 40% (check facts) of the people who entered the program

  4. Engineers can handle constructive criticism

    • Without falling apart or (worse) going passive-aggressive

  5. Engineers are Problem Solvers

    • While thinking (whining) out loud, my favorite engineer listened, thought, went away for a few minutes...and then started solving it

  6. Engineers start, and finish tasks

    • This profession is chosen by meticulous people, so leaving something unfinished will keep them up at night

  7. Engineers take initiative and they don't need to be told what to do

    • Their competitive nature keeps them constantly working to achieve greatness.

Here is what future ENGINEERS will also learn in our After School English Enrichment Program (we're ALL a work in progress, so grownups can learn these skills with us too):

  1. Soft Skills-negotiation, teamwork, accepting the ideas of others, flexibility, creativity, humility, humanizing, empathy, common sense and RESPECT are taught in every one of our classes
  2. Global Mindset-how to work and communicate with people from different countries and cultures
  3. American confidence-expressing ideas clearly, public speaking for REAL self-efficacy
